Nokia is at last bringing its groundbreaking PureView camera technology to another handset in the Windows Phone-powered Lumia range, sources close to movers and shakers in Espoo have claimed. The 41-megapixel sensor which wowed tech fans around the world after landing on the 808 PureView – Nokia’s last ever Symbian phone – will make its debut on the Lumia range in an upcoming smartphone.
Dubbed the ‘EOS’, which could be a nod to Canon’s wildly popular DSLR range, the handset will reportedly land this summer in the US and will rock close to five times the resolution of most high-end camera phones.
Nokia previously introduced its PureView imaging technology on the Lumia 920, which added optical image stabilisation – making it the world’s first handset to do so. However, it left something to be desired for many tech heads who were disappointed that it was still missing the actual sensor that featured on the 808.
Although Nokia said it is aware of a demand for a true PureView Lumia phone, it declined to corroborate rumours about the EOS.
A spokesperson for the company said: "While we are delighted with the attention the Nokia Lumia range continues to gather, it has been our long-held policy not to comment on market rumours or speculation."
