Samsung’s Android 4.4 update schedule for its current-gen and previous-gen flagship phones has leaked online, with the first handsets set to get on board early next year. `
According to what we’re told is an internal memo sourced by iTech Addict, the Galaxy S4 and Note 3 are in line for a bump to the latest KitKat version of Android at some time during January.
If you’re still rocking a Galaxy S3 or Galaxy Note, you’re looking at a much longer wait, though. Samsung doesn’t intend to start rolling out Android 4.4 to these kits until March or April.
Before you get too excited about the upgrade, it’s worth mentioning that these dates most likely apply solely to Galaxy handsets bought off-contract and SIM-free.
Those of you who bought your Galaxy smartphone on a monthly contract will probably have to sit on your hands a while longer while your carrier performs tests on the new software. And ensures that KitKat works with whatever bloatware they’ve squirreled away on your slab of cellular joy.
As well as a rethought dialler and redesigned icons, KitKat brings with it an all-new Hangouts app, with SMS integration, and various, non-specific performance optimisations.
