Twitter has revealed a new update for its smartphone app, aimed at making it easier for users to report abuse.
The streamlined process now means that when you head to the settings section of the Twitter app, you can not only block someone, but also file a report, telling the social network why you’re choosing to prevent someone accessing your tweets.
There are choices to report harassment, impersonation or self–harm, with Twitter no longer requiring you to deliver extremely detailed information in order to raise an issue. You can type in additional notes about your case when prompted.
Blocked users will no longer be able to access your profile and you can see a list of users you’ve blocked within the settings section of the Twitter website.
The update is rolling out to select users now, with a wider update expected soon.
Twitter says that this is just the start of a new approach, which will see it issue more stringent guidelines about abuse, as well as additional user controls. Some might say this comes far too late, but it seems Twitter has finally grasped the thorny issue of abuse on its service.
