Google’s next-generation Nexus 7 will launch in Blighty on August 28th. That’s the word from Asus, the manufacturer behind the Big G’s impressive new budget slate.

It means the tablet will be up for grabs a month earlier than previously suggested. Pricing for the Wi-Fi only models is expected to be £199 for the 16GB version and £239 for the more capacious 32GB edition.

There’s no news yet on how much the much-hyped 4G models will cost when they land on these shores. The speedy cellular 4G Nexus 7 starts at $349 in the US.

Specs-wise the slate has been given an impressive bump in key areas. It now rocks a 1,920x1,200 pixel display, with the rear camera jumping to 5 megapixels.
