NewsSpot was an impressive Google Reader app for our Windows Phone. In a few days though, Google Reader will be no more and changes were needed. Enter the version 3.1 update for NewsSpot which brings support for NewsBlur.

NewsBlur has gained in popularity since Google tanked its Reader and has a free account or a paid subscription that will run $24 annually.

Additionally, NewsSpot also supports switching between multiple sync accounts. You still have support for Pocket, Instapaper, Twitter, Facebook, Readability, and Evernote to share or bookmark your articles.

The developer does note that some of the advanced features of NewsBlur haven't been integrated into NewsSpot but are in the works. The target is to get functionality up to snuff sometime in July.

Additionally, look for future updates to bring service choices beyond NewsBlur to give users a choice of where they get news from. Choices that could include FeedBin, AOL Reader, and hopefully Feedly once the API is available.

NewsSpot is a sharp looking reader app for our Windows Phone (7.x and 8 devices) and bringing NewsBlur on board keeps things rolling. If you haven't tried NewsSpot, t here is a trial version available for NewsSpot that is ad-supported and lets you sync up to 200 unread and 50 starred articles. The full version is running $1.99 and can sync up to 2,000 unread or starred articles.
