According to Android Pit, two insiders have told it that Google is plotting to have the update out by the end of February.

The beefed up software will apparently bring back silent mode to Android, a miss which is as baffling as it is infuriating. Other changes are said to include a much–needed boost to battery life, an end to sudden app crashes and a fix for notifications which fail to come through.

Although a February date has been mooted, it’s been speculated by Android watchers that it may take months for the update to clear testing by networks. It’s also likely that this update will be for Nexus and Google Edition phones only, meaning phones from the likes of Samsung, HTC and LG will have to put up with the current version of Android Lollipop for the time being.

lollipop has seen slow adoption rates since its November launch, with fewer than 0.1% of Android users upgrading. However, that number should jump sharply in early 2015, as manufacturers bring the OS to their flagship phones.
